Things to Do in Fargo

As the weather grows nicer, there are many things that people can do to enjoy the newfound warmth. Going for walks, tanning in the sun and relaxing outside are all great ways to get rid of the undeniable stress of finals. The greater Fargo area also has a ton in store for people to enjoy in the beautiful April and May weather. These activities are great for those who call Fargo home and for those just visiting. With that, here’s what Fargo has to offer.

One location that is very popular to go to and hang out at in Fargo is The Lights. Located in West Fargo, The Lights provides a variety of outdoor activities in every season of the year, a variety of on-site restaurants, shops and cafes, and year-round amenities including concerts, theater and so much more. The lights also provide a parking garage with over 400 parking spaces, free Wi-Fi for guests, skyways and other amenities for guests.

Another popular location in Fargo is the city’s downtown district. Downtown Fargo provides a ton of places to shop and great restaurants with fantastic food. While the shops and eateries of the area are incredible in their own right, the downtown area also hosts a ton of community-oriented events. Come summer and fall, the downtown area holds the annual Red River Market, which is a community-focused farmers market featuring great local products, baked goods and other locally sourced items from over 80 vendors. While it’s not here yet, it’s something to keep in mind for when it opens in July and you have time to explore. Downtown Fargo also provides incredible spots to take fantastic photos for any occasion, with art installations sprinkled all over the district.

Another fantastic location to visit is Bonazaville. Located in West Fargo, Bonanzaville is a 12-acre pioneer village and historical museum operated by the Cass County Historical Society. It features over 40 historic buildings such as a church, schoolhouse, salon and so many more historical buildings. Bonanzaville also has specialized museums, including the Eagle Air museum, the Law Enforcement museum, the Telephone Pioneers museum and more.

Finally, the last location that is fairly popular is Island Park. Island Park was the first park to be built in Fargo. This park features playgrounds, tennis courts and mature trees. It also has a pool that opens every summer, offering a perfect way to beat the coming summer heat. The pool, newly renovated in 2025, was remodeled to include a 50-meter pool, a lazy river, a slide tower and diving boards. Island Park remains a popular hub for activity with its loop trail, perfect for a leisure walk or an energized run. The park is a great place to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the city’s green spaces.
