Boo! at NDSU returns for Halloween festivities

Photo by NDSUNorth Dakota State University will welcome families to campus for its annual Boo! at NDSU event Thursday, Oct. 22, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., offering an evening of Halloween activities and trick-or-treating.
The event, sponsored by NDSU Residence Life and Athletics, is free and open to the public. Activities are geared toward children ages 10 and under, although families with children of all ages are welcome.
Boo! at NDSU will feature a community carnival in Cater Hall, where student organizations and campus groups will host booths offering Halloween-themed games, crafts and other activities.
In addition to the carnival, four residence halls will open their doors for trick-or-treating. Families can visit Cater, Pavek, Sevrinson and Thompson halls, where participating students will distribute candy.
Jen Kacere, assistant director for leadership development in the NDSU Department of Residence Life, said the event provides an opportunity for families to participate in Halloween activities while connecting with the university.
“Boo! at NDSU is a great opportunity for families to enjoy a fun, safe trick-or-treating and carnival experience while connecting with the NDSU community,” Kacere said in an NDSU news release.
“It also gives children a glimpse into college life and the experiences of our students, helping build connections between the campus and the Fargo-Moorhead community.”
Student organizations and residence hall participants play a central role in the event by organizing activities and welcoming families into the residence halls.
According to NDSU Residence Life, families can expect to spend approximately an hour participating in the carnival activities, depending on the age of the children. Attendees are encouraged to allow additional time for trick-or-treating.
Families may choose to begin with the carnival or visit the residence halls first.
To help visitors navigate the participating buildings, trick-or-treating maps will be available in the lobby of each residence hall. Rooms distributing candy will display a pumpkin sign on their doors, indicating that families are welcome to stop.
Children are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes and must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
The carnival will take place in Cater Hall, located at 1650 15th Ave. N. in Fargo. Trick-or-treating will also be available in Pavek, Sevrinson and Thompson halls.
Free parking will be available for attendees.
The event is intended to bring together NDSU students and members of the surrounding community through Halloween activities while providing families an opportunity to experience the university's residential campus.
