Soccer Shuts Out UND on Senior Night, 3-0
NDSU AthleticsThe North Dakota State women’s soccer team entered this past weekend at 4-6-6 while preparing for a rivalry game with the North Dakota Fighting Hawks. The Bison honored eight players for their senior night before taking on UND.
NDSU, all season, has struggled to get on the scoreboard. Preventing teams from scoring has never been their problem. In this game, they flexed their muscles defensively and offensively, playing one of their most complete games yet.
In the fifth minute, Morgan Russman added to her all-conference-level season with a goal assisted by Sidney Armstrong. The Bison took a 1-0 lead well into the first half before Russman scored again.
This time Amber Smith assisted the goal in the 32nd minute, and the Bison took a 2-0 lead. Almost exactly 10 minutes later, the Bison tacked on another goal, but this time from Ambry Plate and assisted by Isabel Garcia.
The Herd took a 3-0 lead into halftime, and they continued that lead into the second half. The Bison took home their fifth win of the season overall, and their third conference win to advance to 3-3-2 overall in Summit League play.
NDSU outshot UND 22-11 plus had 10 shots on goal compared to UND’s six. Payton Mulberry helped NDSU pitch their sixth shutout of 2026, having six saves in this win for the herd. The Bison now sit in fifth place in the conference two spots ahead of UND who they just defeated.
Oral Roberts, who’s still unbeaten, sits in first place at 6-0-2. Omaha sits just above NDSU at fourth, and in the second and third standings are NDSU's next two opponents, South Dakota State and South Dakota.
Both of these games are on the road in Brookings and Vermillion. In these next two rivalry games, the Bison will look to win their spot in the Summit League tournament in November and look to get back on top of the conference.
Their game with South Dakota will take place on Thursday at 6 p.m. The South Dakota State game will happen at 1 p.m. on Sunday in Brookings. Both games will be streamed on the Summit League Network, or you can follow the scoring live on NDSU’s website. It is a big week ahead as the Bison wrap up their regular season schedule.
