Soccer Remains in Summit League Race After Scoreless Draw With SDSUNDSU Athletics

To cap off a homecoming week full of sporting events on campus at NDSU, the Bison soccer team hosted the South Dakota State Jackrabbits at Dacotah Field on Saturday night. They entered this contest sitting at 3-4-4 overall and a 1-1 conference record.

A rare night game created a solid environment of 515 fans for a season-high as the defending Summit League champions came to town. Unfortunately for Bison and Jackrabbit fans, there wasn’t much to cheer for. Not only would this game end in a tie, but zero total goals were scored. There were just 26 total shots and nine shots on goal, with six coming from the Jacks.

Morgan Russman led the Bison with six shots, and Mia Bosch had three for the Jacks. Payton Mulberry kept her solid season going with six saves for the Bison. Overall, a very quiet game for both teams as the Bison earned 3-4-5 overall on the season and 1-1-1 in Summit League play.

South Dakota State kept their top spot in the Summit League standings at 1-0-2. The Bison sit in third place after this tie behind the South Dakota Coyotes. NDSU’s next game will be against St. Thomas, who sits in last place in the conference.

St. Thomas sits at 0-3 in Summit League play and 1-8-1 overall this season. A great spot for the Bison to get above .500 in conference play. Following that, NDSU will play the Omaha Mavericks at home.

The week after that, the Bison travel south for their away trip to play Oral Roberts and Kansas City, two teams that sit outside the top four in the Summit League. The last three games are against UND at home, USD on the road and SDSU on the road.

In the Summit League, NDSU’s Morgan Russman is having another all-conference season, leading the Bison in shots and shots on goal. She is also in second place in goals behind Oral Robert’s Brianna Castleberry.

With just a few weeks left in the season, the Bison look to build up some wins during this weaker stretch in their schedule before the monster three games at the end of the year with three big rivals. If they can stay around .500 or better, they will likely be in the top four, setting themselves up well for the Summit League tournament in November.
