NDSU Soccer Opens Homestand With Win over Prairie View A&M and Closes With Draw to Presbyterian

The North Dakota State Bison soccer team entered this past week sitting at 0-3-1, searching for their first victory as they had already accumulated losses to Green Bay, Marquette and Minnesota. 

Their lone tie came against the Washington State Cougars on Aug. 23. This past Thursday the Bison hosted the Prairie View A&M Panthers at Dacotah Field.

It was a quiet first 30 minutes until Maddie Miller scored a Bison goal assisted by Abby DeSena to give the bison a 1-0 lead. Another 27 minutes would pass before Prairie View A&M would tie things up to 1-1 in the 58th minute. 

The Bison answered right back thanks to All-Summit League member Morgan Russman, giving NDSU a 2-1 lead with a goal in the 62nd minute. Ellie Sanchez delivered the dagger in the 79th minute to give NDSU their first win of the 2026 season. 

Twenty-five total shots occurred and 22 of them came from the Bison. The herd had 9 shots on goal and the Panthers had just one. 

A total of 19 fouls occurred and 11 of them came from the Panthers, compared to NDSU’s 8. Overall, it was a solid victory for the Bison. The final score was 3-1 with the Bison heading into Sunday with a 1-3-1 record.

The Bison’s second game of the season was against Presbyterian, who would come to Fargo allowing the Bison to play on their home field. In search of their second win of the season, some unfortunate results proved to surface as the Bison were unable to secure such a win.

Neither team ended up scoring, which created a 0-0 draw. Just 20 total shots would occur during the game and only eight of them would be shots at the goal. Twenty-three fouls occurred, with 12 of them being from the Bison. Ultimately, there was not a whole lot of action leading up to the tie, and the Bison dropped to 1-3-2.

The Bison have just three non-conference games remaining before Summit League play begins. They will travel to Westmont and UC Santa Barbara before hosting Florida Atlantic to wrap up their pre-Summit play.

Conference play begins on Sept. 24 vs. UND in Grand Forks. Then, the Summit League home opener vs. the South Dakota Coyotes is held on Sunday, Sept. 27 at Dacotah Field. 

The Bison currently sit at 6th in the conference out of 8 teams. Oral Roberts remains undefeated and the South Dakota State Jackrabbits have lost just once this season.
