Soccer Drops to Third in Summit League After Winless Week Against St. Thomas, Omaha
NDSU AthleticsThe NDSU women’s soccer team entered this past week sitting at 3-4-5 overall in 2026, and 1-1-1 in Summit League play. Looking to get their conference record above .500, they took on the Tommies of St. Thomas and the Mavericks of Omaha.
They began with St. Thomas on Thursday at Dacotah Field. Izzy McEwan started things off for the Tommies in the 20th minute with a goal, giving St. Thomas a 1-0 lead early on. Just over ten minutes later, Hannah Arnold tied things up at one with a goal for North Dakota State.
Just when the Bison thought they captured momentum, St. Thomas stole it back. Kalli Knowles scored two minutes after Hanna Arnold’s goal to give the Tommies a 2-1 lead with a ton of time to go.
St. Thomas stood tall for the rest of the game and handed NDSU its second conference loss of 2026. St. Thomas and NDSU both had 11 shots in this game, and St. Thomas had five shots on goal compared to NDSU’s four.
The Bison had an opportunity shortly after to get back on track as Omaha came to town on Sunday. It’d be another early afternoon kickoff at Dacotah Field for the Bison as they’d look to get back to .500 in conference play.
NDSU's struggle to put points on the board unfortunately continued as the Bison held scoreless for the seventh time this season. But the good news for the Bison is that they also held Omaha scoreless.
Eighteen total shots and 10 shots on goal resulted in zero goals and a 0-0 tie. The Bison ended in a tie for the sixth time this season, resulting in 3-5-6 overall and 1-2-2 in Summit League play. The Bison now sit in third place in the Summit League behind both South Dakota schools and just ahead of UND.
NDSU faced a tough stretch of two games against two of the bottom three teams in the conference, but the Bison have the chance to bounce back on the road coming up. The Bison have their southern trip to Kansas City and Oral Roberts on Thursday and Sunday before coming home on Oct. 24 for their final home game of the 2026 season.
Following that, they will travel to South Dakota and South Dakota State to complete the regular season before hoping to continue in the 2026 Summit League tournament in November. Oral Roberts and Kansas City are a combined 4-2-4 in Summit League play this season, so it’ll be a tough stretch. The remainder of NDSU’s games this season can be found on the Summit League Network.
