As winter is at its end, I wanted to talk about how college students survive the cold by referring to the techniques used to stay warm.
As the end of March comes closer, we realize that spring is almost here. However, here in Fargo it feels like we don’t know when spring is going to arrive. For instance, it was 62 degrees and sunny here in Fargo last Monday, and then for the rest of the week, it dropped down 30-40 degrees and was snowy and cloudy. It feels like it’s spring one day, and the next day, it’s back to being winter.
Whenever it’s cold outside, it’s hard for students to get out of bed and go to class because all they want to do is stay in their warm, soft blankets all day. The longer you stay inside, the less you have to worry about the cold. But the academics call, so we must find ways to survive the uncomfortable cold.
Some ways that college students survive the cold are by wearing extra socks to keep their feet warm and cozy.
Another way to stay warm is by wearing layers. Wearing two to three layers of clothes can help it feel like it’s not cold outside. That way you don’t have to rush to get inside a building for a class, to do homework or hang out with friends. You can take your sweet old time without freezing.
Another way to stay warm is to opt for driving or taking the bus rather than walking. The more you drive or take public transportation, the less you have to worry about being out in the cold. This way, you avoid walking in the chilly weather.
Personally, I survive the cold by sucking it up and wearing at least two layers of clothing. Thankfully, there are skyways that NDSU students can take, so whenever it is cold — basically every day — I can use the skyway to get to my classes faster and avoid the cold.
Another way I survive the cold, snowy weather and blowing wind, when my schedule allows, is by staying inside, wrapped up in my cozy blanket, where the temperature is just right, and where I can watch my favorite shows and movies.
These are some ways that students can approach staying warm during these colder times. It can be frustrating how the weather sways back and forth from warm to cold, but better (warmer) days are coming. For now, bundle up, drive or take the bus, or give yourself extra time to take the skyways. Spring is just around the corner, the time for winter to evade.
