From Corvallis to Dallas: NDSU Track and Field Dominates National Competition

Both NDSU track and field teams traveled across the country for their second-to-last meet before the Summit League championship. Many of the throwers and distance runners went to Corvallis, Oregon, for the Oregon State High Performance meet, while sprinters and jumpers flew down to Dallas, Texas, for the SMU Invitational.

Starting with a win, transfer Brady Goss won the 3000m long-distance race by over ten seconds. One of his many victories this year. Freshman Kylie Nelson placed third on the women’s side.

The men were dominant in the 1500m; they collected three top-ten places, including first place for Ethan Moe with a time of 3:46.42. He has continued his success in the latter part of this year. Quinn Roehl placed sixth, and Carl Rekow placed fifth.

Kaleb Foltz and Ethan Moe ran against each other in the 800m. Foltz ended up finishing first while Moe ran as runner-up. Foltz has taken charge of the 800m this year.

Senior Jacob Knodle got on the board with his fourth-place finish in the 5000m.

The throwers in Oregon were impressive. In many of the throwing events, there were wins but also many top-five finishes.

In the hammer throw, Kaden Pastian threw 61.02m for second, another placing in a huge meet. Ashley Rusthoven and Adison Kapitzke placed fourth and third, respectively, to represent NDSU in the hammer throw.

Aiden Krause won his first meet of the outdoor season in the discus; he won with a personal best mark of 54.79m. Pastian would also place third in the meet.

With the women’s javelin traveling to Dallas, the men threw in Oregon. They would claim the three in the top six. Zach Lilly placed sixth with a toss of 58.21m, Daniel Severud placed fifth with a mark of 59.02m, and freshman Ryder Bickett placed third with his throw hitting close to 60m.

Moving from Corvallis to Dallas: the sprinters are legit. Starting in the 200, Tyler Milke placed fifth on the men’s side. Elise Wisnewski placed fourth, and her relay running mate Paige Renschler ran a blazing 23.40-second 200 to claim the top spot in Dallas.

Renschler would strike once again during the 100m dash; she won and recorded a top 60 time in Division One with 11.42 seconds, with Wisnewski rounding out the top 10.

Carter Reckelberg and Lucas McNichols leaped into the top five of the long jump. Reckelberg missed first place by four inches, and McNichols finished right behind him in the standings. Grace Van Erp placed sixth in her division of the long jump.

NDSU put on a jumping clinic. In the high jump, Andrew Berg recorded his personal best jump for third, Arienne Birch won the event with a jump of 1.74 meters and Rylee Johnson rounded out the top four.

Reece Gosserode recorded his personal best jump of the season in the men’s triple jump to place second, but Adam Dugger stole the show with a mark of 15.63 in the long jump; he posted the 31st best score in Division One and won the event.

To round out the throwing events all weekend. Jenna Shutt and Alexandra Seagris threw marks to claim the runner-up and third place in the women’s javelin.

The team of Arndt, Renschler, Mehrkens and Wisnewski on the 4×100 relay keeps rising on the school record list. They would get ousted by Missouri State and UTEP to retrieve that third place.

Sydney Arndt, Jordyn Daivs, Marvelous Onwualo and Rylee Johnson all placed in the top ten of the 100m hurdles, with Arndt rising up the leaderboard to second. It was the same case with the men’s side; Josh Kyei-Baffour, Trey Knoke and Brooks Turner all ran into the top six of the event.

Both divisions in the 400m hurdles commanded results. Kendal Stingle ran her personal best with under a minute, and Kate Laqua finished seventh. The men had three in the top eight. Otto Anderson placed second with a personal best of 53.08 seconds, Ramon Duran placed third and freshman Trey Knoke rounded out the top eight.

After soaking up the sunshine in Texas and Oregon, NDSU will host its own “Bison Tune-Up” next weekend ahead of the Summit League Outdoor Championship in Fargo.
