Men’s Golf Wraps Regular Season with Ohio Tournaments

The North Dakota State men’s golf team has had a strong regular season, and they were looking to cap it off in the Buckeye State at two tournaments, the Highland Meadows Intercollegiate hosted by Bowling Green and the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate hosted by Ohio State.

Highland Meadows Intercollegiate Day 1

Following day one NDSU sat in 5th place as they shot five over par through the first two rounds. The Bison shot one over par in the first round and four over par in the second round. Nate Adams led the way as he sat in a tie for 14th place at one under par. He shot a 68 (-3) in the first round and a 73 in the second round; he birdied six holes over the two rounds. Jack Johnson was two shots back of Adams as he tied for 21st shooting one over par. Jake Skarperud was tied for 26th at +2. Josh Galvin sat in a tie for 33rd while Ian Simonich sat in 53rd at +9 while Gavin Cronkhite, playing as an individual, sat in a tie for 69th at +16.

Highland Meadows Intercollegiate Day 2

The NDSU men’s golf team finished the first of two Ohio tournaments in 5th place at the Highland Meadows Intercollegiate tournament posting a +4 finish. The Bison shot a -1 round of 283, their best round of the tournament in the final round to claim fifth place in the 11-team event. Minnesota won the team title at -19, with Miami (Ohio) placing second at -10.

Nate Adams and Jack Johnson led the way in the final round, each shooting a round of  70 (-1). Adams finished in a tie for 12th at -2. Johnson finished even and in a tie for 19th. Ian Simonich shot even par in the final round, and Jake Skarperud shot a final-round score of 72 (+1). Both made three birdies during their round, and Skarperud finished in a tie for 28th. Simonich finished tied for 46th.

 Kepler Intercollegiate Day 1

Round one at the Scarlet Course at Ohio State University didn’t go well for the NDSU men’s golf team as their team score of 303 (+19) put them in 16th place. Nate Adams and Josh Galvin led the way with identical rounds of 75 (+4). Adams was the only Bison to make a birdie. The duo sits tied for 47th in the 99-golfer field. Jack Johnson shot a 76 to sit at +5 in a tie for 57th. Jake Skarperud and Ian Simonich shot rounds of 77 (+6). The duo tied for 75th heading into day two. The Bison sat 16th in an 18-team field.

 Kepler Intercollegiate Day 2

Day two for the Bison wasn’t miserable as they shot a +22 round of 306 to sit in 18th. Josh Galvin and Jake Skarperud each shot rounds of 75. Galvin leads the Bison and sits in a tie for 44th at +8 after back-to-back 75s. Skarperud sits at +10 and is in a tie for 60th.

 Kepler Intercollegiate Day 3

In what was their final round of the regular season, the Bison wrapped the tournament at +53, taking 16th of 18 teams at the event. Improving by two spots from the previous day. The Bison shot their best round of the tournament with a 296, which was led by an even-par 71 from Nate Adams. The senior carded a team-high four birdies in the round, including two over the final four holes to finish in a tie for 27th at +9. Ian Simonich carded his best round of the tournament with a 74. Simonich finished the event at +18, in a tie for 85th.

NDSU will now head to the Summit League Championship, which will be hosted at Covered Bridge in Sellersburg, Indiana, from April 28-30.
