Men and Women’s Track and Field Teams Travel and Compete in Boston and South Dakota State Meets

Last Friday, February 10, several Bison traveled to Boston University’s David Emmery Invitational Track Meet. There, they had a ton of great performances and new personal bests. Following on Saturday, other members of the Bison Track & Field teams competed in South Dakota State University’s Indoor Classic. 

In Boston, Throwers Kaden Pastian and Cameron Landis continued their success this season. In the shot put, Cameron Landis placed second with a throw of 56’½”.  With a throw of 57’3”, Kaden Pastian won the event. Pastian went on to take third in the weight throw with a mark of 62’9 ½”. Following a tremendous previous meet as well, Sophomore, Blake Nyenati ran a time of 7.89 to win the 60m Hurdles. Logan Matheui also placed in the event. Matheui clocked a time of 8.02 and took third. 

For the Women’s team, the 4x400m relay squad continues to impress. The relay team moved up to fourth in NDSU History and won with a time of 3:41.57. The winning relay team consisted of Bailee Dierks, Kaci Kooper, Nell Graham, and Kendra Kelley. Kelley also won the 200m dash running a 23.59. Fellow relay member as well, Bailee Dierks moved up to sixth in NDSU History and took second with a new personal record time of 8.49 in the 60m Hurdles. In first, Junior Salmata Korgho won the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.45. Still leading the Summit League, Grace Link ran 4:47.86 in the mile to set a new personal best. Other titles taken at the meet included Merrideth Spiers taking first in the weight throw (63’10”). For the jumps, Freshman Arienne Birch took the high jump title and finished with a height of 5’7 ¼”.

In South Dakota, Julia Gherardi took the pole vault title clearing a height of 12’9 ½”. Following, Junior Jacee Johannsen took second with a height of 12’3 ½”. For the men, Braden Brown cleared 6’8” to win the high jump. And in the long jump, Michael Haugo took first with a mark of 23’2 ½”. On the track, Gabe Miles ran an impressive 200m dash time of 22.03 and put up a personal record time of 48.94 in the 400m.  This weekend, the Track and Field teams will travel to Grand Forks to compete in UND’s Tune-up track meet on February 17.
