Champion Sweep: Men and Women’s Track and Field Capture Indoor Summit League Title

Track and Field went north to Grand Forks to take part in the Summit League Championships. Both Men and Women took home titles, the men capturing their tenth title and the women grabbing their seventeenth. The University of South Dakota finished in second in both championships. The Men’s team scored 191.5 points to USD’s 145. The Women’s team scored 177 compared to USD’s 143.5. This was the first time in four years that the NDSU Men’s Track and Field team has taken home an indoor Summit League title, marking the 17th title in the last 19 years. Meanwhile, the women’s team has also claimed the indoor title.

Some stars of the event include junior Paul Olsen, who finished in first place in the men’s heptathlon, followed by Owen Angell, who placed second. Freshman Trey Knoke placed sixth to round out the Bison. Anika Larson finished first in both the prelim and final rounds of the Women’s 200, and Paige Renschler placed second in both races.

Zackery Bruder placed first in the men’s 400 prelim but fell to second in the race on Saturday. Kaleb Foltz swept both 800m races for the men. Carter Reckelberg took victory in the men’s long jump. Adison Kapitzke and Riley Quinn finished one and two in women’s shotput. Reece Grossrode placed first in the men’s triple jump.

Reese Rogowski placed first in the women’s 400 prelim race, but Kaela Skistad took the victory on Saturday. Renschler and Larson would again finish one and two in the 60m prelims, but Larson would take the victory on Saturday, with Renschler falling to second. Jordyn Davis finished first in the 60m hurdles in the women’s event, but would finish second on Saturday, with Rylee Johnson placing third in the event.

Tyler Milkes placed fourth in both the prelim and actual race in the men’s 200m. Paige Halder placed third in the women’s pentathlon. Carl Rekow placed third in the men’s mile and sixth in the men’s 3000m. Reagan Burg finished eighth in the women’s mile. Jade Rypkema placed third in the women’s 5000m and fifth in the 3000m. Zach McGlynn secured fourth place in the men’s high jump. Arienne Birch took home gold for the women’s high jump. Ella Gardner placed second in the women’s long jump.

The men’s national championship will take place on March 13 and 14 in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and then the spring season will kick off in San Francisco as the Bison head to the Mike Fanelli Classic. For the women, there will be no winter nationals, so they will rest up until it is time to head out west to the Bay Area!
