Bartels Finishes Top-7 in SoCal Spring Invitational, Bison Tie for Fifth

Women’s Golf had the luck of spending spring break in sunny California as they headed to Camarillo for the SoCal Spring Invitational, hosted by Morehead State. The event lasted three days, spanning from March 8 to March 10. NDSU finished in a three-way tie for fifth place in the 15-team event; Nebraska would claim victory. The schools the Bison tied with were Memphis and Murray State. They all finished with an 896(+44). In the first round, NDSU finished tied for sixth with CSU Northridge, with both schools shooting a 306(+21). In round two, NDSU would improve to a 299(+14). The Bison capped off the event with their best round, a 294(+9).

​On the individual side, sophomore Avery Bartels would lead the way for the Bison again, finishing in a three-way tie for seventh place. The sophomore opened things up, shooting one over at 72(+1). A triple bogey on hole 12 halted her from shooting under par, as she had three pars to two bogeys. In the second round, she shot her highest, a 75(+4). She shot five bogeys in the front nine, cleaning it up with five pars in the back nine. In the final round, she shot an even 71 with three pars and three bogeys. Bartels finished the event with 218(+5).

​Junior Norah Roberts finished second in the team rankings and 22nd overall, shooting 224(+11) through the three-round event. She shot a 76(+5) in both the opening and ending rounds, with her best round coming in the middle with a 72(+1). Roberts shot five pars throughout the event. Right behind her in a tie for twenty-third place is senior Madi Hicks, who improved with each round of the tournament. Hicks started with a 77(+6), a messy first nine. On the second day, she matched her score but shot one less double bogey. In the final round, she opened with 11 straight pars to finish even with two bogeys and two birdies. Hicks finished with a 225(+12).

​Down the board, junior Hannah Dunk represented NDSU as an independent and finished in a tie for thirty-eighth place. Hannah’s event was highlighted by her eagle in round one, where she shot a 78(+7). She improved in the second round with a 74(+3). She struggled to finish in the final round with four bogeys and a double bogey in the final five holes, shooting a 77(+6) to finish with a 229(+16). Senior Cora Larson finished in a tie for fifty-seventh place, shooting a 233(+20). She also improved in each round, starting with an 80(+9), elevating in the middle round to a 78(+7), and finishing off with a strong 75(+4), ending the third round with seven pars. Finally, freshman Jefi Lafleche sat alone in sixtieth place with a 234(+21). The freshman had the highest stroke total of any Bisons single round with her 82(+11) in the opening round. She bounced back strong with a 74(+3) with six pars in the back nine. She ended the weekend with a 78(+7)

​Women’s Golf will return on March 23 for the penultimate meeting of the 2025-2026 season with the Bell Bank “Pay it Forward” Invitational hosted by Minnesota, taking place in Litchfield Park, Arizona.
