Football adds Arizona in 2022

No Big Ten, no problem for the Bison. The school that is tied for the third longest winning streak against FBS opponents has added a new target to the list.

The University of Arizona will host the Bison on Sept. 17, 2022, at Arizona Stadium in Tucson.

It will be the first game between the two schools, and Arizona’s first against a Missouri Valley school.

Before Wildcats and the Bison square off, NDSU will put its six-game FBS winning streak on the line against the Oregon Ducks. The game in Eugene will be in 2020.

With the Big Ten no longer scheduling FCS team, the Bison have turned to the Pac-12. The Ducks and Wildcats are joined by the Colorado Buffaloes in 2024 as the only FBS teams on the future Bison schedule at this point.

Track duo claim Athlete of the Week honors

For the fourth time in his career, Alex Renner earned the Summit League Outdoor Men’s Track and Field Athlete of the week.

On the women’s side, it was the first time for junior Alyssa Olin.

Renner, the senior thrower, had a pair of top-two finishes last weekend at the Husker Spring Invite in Nebraska.

He won the shot put with a throw of 63-00.25 and was second in the hammer with a mark of 204-1.

The shot put distance extended his school record while going to No. 9 in the nation.

For Olin, her weekend consisted a pushing her personal best further and further on route to a first-place finish in the javelin.

On each of her four throws, she improved her distance, finish with a throw of 169-3. The throw places her No. 15 in the nation.

NDSU great Ben Woodside retires from basketball

After eight years of playing professional ball, 2009 graduate Ben Woodside has hung up the laces.

Woodside etched himself into NDSU basketball history in 2009. In NDSU’s first year of Division I eligibility, the point guard hit the shot to send the Bison to the Big Dance.

It was a long jumper to break a 64-64 tie with a handful of seconds left to lift the Bison over Oakland.

Since then, Woodside has been all over the world. with stops in the NBA Summer League, the French League, a pair of stops in Turkey, he hangs it up after a year in New Zealand.

It was playing for the New Zealand Breakers, where he led the team in assists, he tore his plantar fascia. At Monday’s press conference, he said that the injury was not the reason he retired.

“Some people thought why I stepped away, and that is definitely not the reason,” said Woodside.

“I was sick of being away from my family. I spent two years living apart from my wife. Over time, that starts to eat at you.”

Woodside will now take part in a summer camp with former teammate Lucas Moormann.
