Spotlight on Chi Alpha

For students looking to build community through faith, Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship provides an opportunity to connect with other North Dakota State University students through weekly services and campus activities.

Chi Alpha is a Christian student organization at NDSU that provides students with opportunities to participate in worship, fellowship and other activities. This organization has been involved in connecting students during campus events, especially during Welcome Week.

For McKenna Konz, a sophomore at NDSU and member of Chi Alpha, the organization has provided an opportunity for her to build meaningful friendships with people she can trust and openly share her faith with.

“I can trust them and feel comfortable opening up to them. Being a part of this community has given me people I can turn to when I want to talk about my personal faith,” Konz said.

The organization holds services Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m, giving students two service times to choose from. These times allow a greater flexibility for students working around their class and work schedules.

The services are held in the Anishinaabe Theatre inside of the Memorial Union, making the location accessible to many students on campus.

A Chi Alpha service typically begins with a pre-service social gathering outside of the theatre. Following the social, students find their seats in the theatre. Announcements begin and lead into the two opening songs.

Once the songs are finished, a group prayer is held. Following this, a sermon preaches the message of the week. Once the sermon is done, the service is concluded with one last worship song.

Small groups are also held throughout the week, typically on Tuesdays and Thursdays. New students who are interested in joining a small group can join one through a QR code displayed at the service or through word of mouth.

Sophie Suchy, a transfer student at NDSU recently became involved in Chi Alpha. As a new member of the organization, Suchy said the welcoming environment was one of the main factors that drew her to Chi Alpha.

“I truly felt connected to the people I was encountering,” Suchy said.
