Student-led improv club always eager to add to its ranks
There are a lot of things to do on a Saturday night. You can go to Taco Bell, a movie or fix a tire.
Another thing to do on a Saturday night, at least from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m., is going to see the hilarious To Be Determined (TBD) Comedy crew perform at either Askanase Hall or the Memorial Union.
If you are not aware of the TBD Comedy Club and what it is, here is a little rundown.
TBD Comedy is a student-led improvisation club, which means nothing is scripted. The TBD Comedy Club has practice every week, on Mondays and Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The practices for TBD Comedy are for developing the club members’ skills in quick wit and reaction time to situations. These practices eventually lead up to the Saturday shows.
This is also a good time for students who are curious about the club to pop on in and see what it is all about.
“I wanted to hone my skills in comedy and I thought this would be a good start,” says aspiring member Jake Williams.
The club is always happy to include new members as well as teach a thing or two.
“We love teaching anybody that walks through our door about improvisational comedy,” says club president James Hoefler. “We feel it is such an integral tool in everyday social interactions.”
These performances are a chance for club members to show off their wit in sketches and comedy games. This is not a club-only affair, however.
Routinely throughout the show, the audience will be called upon to give suggestions for statements, nouns, places and other such things for the TBD members to use in the game/sketch. This randomness and audience inclusion are what really make the shows great.
Here is a list of dates and locations for the rest of the TBD Comedy Shows this semester:
October 19, Half & Half – Memorial Union
October 26, Halloween Show – Memorial Union
November 2, Stand Up – Askansas
November 16, Half & Half – Memorial Union
November 23, Comedy Clash – Memorial Union
December 14, Senior Send-Off – Memorial Union
The TBD Comedy Club appears on the NDSU Organizations page and provides images and links to Twitter, Facebook and videos on YouTube from past performances.
