Sioux Falls set to host round robin tournament
The NDSU men’s basketball team has added a few games to its early season schedule. The herd, UND, USD and SDSU will play in a round robin tournament down in Sioux Falls at the Sanford Pentagon. The tournament will take place over the course of three days on Dec. 10-12.
The coaches from the four programs came together to make the tournament a reality.
“We are grateful to work with awesome university partners to give their athletes an opportunity to play close to home against their rivals on a neutral floor,” said VP of the Sanford Sports Complex Jesse Smith.
While the games will not count towards the conference schedule, any college basketball is welcome in one fo the most unique sports years in history. Bragging rights is always on the line when any two schools from teh Dakota’s clash.
Bison head coach David Richman sees the tournament as a great opportunity for his team.
These are crazy times, and creative and open thought helped to pull this off. I know our team and staff will be looking forward to the opportunity to get on the floor, grow, and compete.”
The Herd will get a chance to play a couple tune up games before the tournament. The Bison take on the Milwaukee Panthers on Nov. 27 before heading to Lawrence to take on the Kansas Jayhawks on Dec. 5.
The defending Summit League Champion Bison are picked to finish third in the conference this season. With Tyson Ward and Vinnie Shahid (the teams top two leading scorers from last season) having graduated, the Bison should get an idea who is going to step up and carry the scoring load before conference play begins.
