In celebration of Valentine’s Day, the Red Raven Espresso Parlor is hosting their annual Erotic Art Show.
Featuring the work of local artists and NDSU students, this exhibit is a display of sensuality, sexuality and everything in between.
Rachel Murphy, an art education major at NDSU, is featured in the Erotic Art Show. She describes her piece as “series of three works done in pen and watercolor.” Through this series, Murphy explores female masturbation, an experience that is often prohibited from daily discussion.
Murphy’s goal for this piece was to “disassemble the sexual experience from other people and communicate its value as a personal experience.”
Murphy is particularly excited about this show because it opens the doorway to have important conversations about sex and erotica.
“We are constantly bombarded with ideals of what sex is or what is should look like, when in fact sex is a deeply personal experience that means something different to everyone,” Murphy said.
“Art has always been a venue for conversation, communication and exploitation,” Murphy said. “The Red Raven’s show is an opportunity for people in our community to discuss and explore the idea of eroticism.”
Murphy’s request for Erotic Art Show attendees?
“Don’t be quiet,” Murphy said. “Talk about what you like or what you don’t. Explain how something makes you feel or how you relate to a piece. Art is meant to be experienced. If you have questions, ask them.”
Visit Murphy’s art and the work of other local artists at the Red Raven Espresso Parlor (916 Main Ave) throughout the month of February.
