Coffee Review Series: Crux Coffee

Hello, Bison! As we muddle through the tough weather and mid-semester shenanigans, coffee is becoming more and more necessary to daily life. I’ve been struggling with motivation and routine, and trying out new coffee shops is something that always brings me comfort. Whether you try out a new coffee shop alone or with a friend, it can bring a sense of whimsy to the usual routine. My newest recommendation is Crux Coffee!

Crux Coffee sits right across from campus, on the corner of University Drive and 12th Avenue. It is part of the St. Paul’s Newman Center, giving it a close and meaningful connection to NDSU. Its proximity to campus makes it a great stop for longer breaks between classes, or a quick pick-me-up before school. If it seems too hard to walk to Crux, they also have plenty of parking, and the MATBUS makes frequent stops within a few blocks of the Newman Center.

Let’s talk coffee. Crux has good coffee. It isn’t too bitter, and I’ve found that the baristas are also careful not to burn it. There is a wide variety of flavors available to add to drinks at Crux, so they really have something for everyone. They offer seasonal beverages, as well as year-round classics. Crux also sells things like Celsius and water bottles, so on-the-go options are endless. In terms of food, Crux offers numerous pastries, as well as sandwiches, soups and salads. I have thoroughly enjoyed all of the food I have tried there.

One major selling point for Crux coffee is its affordability. Their coffee obviously costs money, but it won’t break the bank the way that most coffee shops would. Even their food maintains a relatively low price point. Crux is definitely a great place for coffee-obsessed students who are trying to maintain somewhat of a tight budget.

Seating at Crux Coffee is more than amicable. They offer a wide variety of seating and plenty of it. Their seating choices also offer a range of private and public seating, so one could both conduct a meeting and do some casual homework at Crux.

Overall, I highly recommend Crux Coffee. The location, price, and quality make it a fantastic place for college students to stop. Unsurprisingly, their staff are also incredibly kind people. Make sure to tip them if you choose to stop by!
