North Dakota State Women’s Golf made their much-anticipated spring season debut last week at the Moutain Classic in Palm Desert, California, hosted by the University of Wyoming. Unlike the traditional invitationals of the fall season, the Bison would participate in match play. The format for the Mountain Classic would be one-on-one, with each team sending five golfers daily. On Monday, NDSU would face St. Thomas. On Tuesday, NDSU would face off against host team Wyoming. Finally, on Wednesday, the Bison would end the Mountain Classic against Portland State.
To start things off on Monday against St. Thomas, North Dakota State would send Norah Roberts, Elise Hoven, Madi Hicks, Hannah Dunk and Avery Bartels for the official match play of the tournament. The Bison would also have three individuals participate, with Cora Larson losing to NAU’s Frankie Dezies four to three. NDSU’s Lily Vincelli would tie with Boise State’s Macee Greenwood. The final individual for NDSU was Jo Baranczyk, who would fall 1-0 to Wyoming’s Samantha Spielman.
For the official participants, NDSU lost 4-0-1 to St. Thomas, with Norah Roberts picking up the sole victory with her 2-1 victory against Amelia Morton. Madi Hicks would come up one hole shy of tying with Isabella Lynch 2-1. Hannah Dunk would also come up one hole shy of a tie with her 1-0 defeat to Emma Davies. Avery Bartles would be defeated by Nicole Reineke 3-1. And to wrap things up for NDSU on Monday, Elise Hoven would fall 3-2 to Kathryn VanAggron.
North Dakota State would rebound fantastically after a rough first day. The ladies shook the cobwebs off and defeated Wyoming with a record of 4-0-1. Avery Bartels would suffer the only defeat for NDSU, with Kyla Wilde beating Bartles 4-3. The rest of the Bison would pick up wins, with Hannah Dunk winning over Meghan Vogt in a close 5-4 victory. Norah Roberts would defeat Kira Reisner with a solid 6-4 victory. Madi Hicks would secure a close win in a 4-3 victory over Sophia Spiva. Finally, to end the day against Wyoming, Elise Hoven would defeat Emerson Purcell 1-0. North Dakota State also had two more individual participants, with the individuals going 1-1, with Lily Vincelli winning 2-0 over Wyoming’s Grace Dunkleberger. Cora Larson would be defeated 1-0 by Wyoming’s Lucia Morelli.
North Dakota State would defeat Portland State 4-0-1 to end the Mountain Classic. Hannah Dunk would suffer the lone loss for the Bison on Wednesday, as Momo Udom would beat her with a score of 1-0. Norah Roberts would defeat Cynthia Ong with the same score of 1-0. Elise Hoven would win her match 7-5 against Baylor Brundage. Avery Bartles would win her first match of the Mountain Classic with her 6-4 victory over Avery Kageyama. Madi Hicks would wrap things up for the official Bison with her 4-3 close win over Payten Shimizu. NDSU would have three more individuals participate to end the Mountain Classic, with Cora Larson picking up a 2-0 win over Boise State’s Emily Cadwell and Jo Baranczyk defeating Zoe Parker, also from Boise 1-0. Lily Vincelli would suffer the lone loss for the independent Bison on Wednesday as she would be subsequently defeated by NAU’s Nina Lukyanenko 1-0.
NDSU Women’s Golf will continue the spring campaign next month at the Jackrabbit Invitational hosted by archrival South Dakota State on March 10-11 in Boulder City, Nevada.
