The Bison (11-13, 7-8) volleyball team completed a clean sweep of Kansas City (6-20, 4-11) this past Saturday in Fargo. Arianna Blohm led the match with 11 kills, and Baily Randall also logged nine. Maddy Dombeck had the most assists in the match with 17 and Eke Denessen also had 13. Logan O’Brien and Ali Hinze both were tied for the match lead in digs with 10 each.
An early 7-0 run allowed the Bison to jump out to a 14-7 lead in set one after a service ace from Ally Barth. Arianna Blohm was then able to string together a block and kill to boost a 4-1 run for the Bison to extend to an 18-9 lead. NDSU was able to keep the Roos at bay and closed out set one, 25-17.
Set two started as a back-and-forth affair, with the two teams tying 12 times and having six lead changes. Kansas City used a 5-0 run to secure a late 21-18 lead. The Bison got it back to a two-point game at 22-20 after a combined block from Arianna Blohm and Emma Tallman. The Bison then strung together five unanswered points of their own to close out the set, 25-22.
Momentum was on the NDSU side as they headed into set three, using an 8-1 run capped off by a Maddy Dombeck service ace to open up a 15-9 lead. A kill from Ali Hinze made it an 18-12 Bison advantage. The Bison were then able to use a 7-4 run to win the set, 25-16, and the match, 3-0.
The Bison will play host to the UND Fighting Hawks on Tuesday as they wrap up regular season play. First set is due for 7 p.m. at the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
