Twilight But Better

Vampires? Check. Werewolves? Check. A jaw-dropping mystery? Check. Spicy romance? Double check. “Bride” by Ali Hazelwood is the perfect read for those who love paranormal romance books.

This book is about Misery Lark, a Vampyre reject who has been living among the Humans for the past few years, who agrees to marry Lowe Moreland in exchange to keep peace between the Vampyres and Weres. However, Misery accepts this deal for her own personal reasons.

This story is not what I thought it would be. While I do like werewolf stories, especially romance ones, I really dislike the normal tropes that they always employ. This book does do some of those tropes, but it twists them around. For one thing, the romance between Misery and Lowe is actually good. Lowe is not a possessive male by any means as common with most werewolf romances. He also actually has a personality outside of “werewolf alpha.”

Misery is a really great female lead. She is sarcastic, motivated and smart. For one thing, she’s an expert hacker and she uses her skills for good things. She also is not a “damsel in distress” trope. For the majority of the book, she gets herself out of situations and is not rescued by Lowe.

“Bride” is not just a romance, but it actually has a really intriguing mystery to it that had me at the edge of my seat to know what the answer was. The book ends with a pretty major plot twist that I did not see coming and it really added to the story overall. There was an actual plot outside of the romance, which I always tend to enjoy more.

“Bride” could be your next favorite read and might be the perfect book to pick up for this Valentine’s Day.
