Track and Field Teams Host and Sweep Bison Cup Meet

NDSU track and field continued their 2025 indoor season last weekend at the Shelly Ellig Indoor Track and Field Facility in Fargo, hosting the Bison Team Cup.

Women

Senior Jacee Johannsen started things off for the women with a personal-best clearance of 13-09.25 (4.20m) to win the pole vault, placing her second in NDSU indoor history and among the NCAA’s Top 20 this season.

Over in the 60m dash, sophomore Anika Larson sprinted a personal best of 7.47, moving her to third on the Bison all-time list. Sydney Arndt matched her season-best time of 8.44 in both the prelims and finals to take first place in the 60m hurdles.

Reagan Baesler, returning to the track after an award-winning cross-country season, continues to impress and captured victories in both the 800m (2:14.72) and the mile (4:53.11).

The Bison triple jumpers swept the top six spots, led by Nyariek Kur (39-11.25 / 12.17m) and Joy Nnantah (38-08.25 / 11.79m). Kur also placed second in the long jump with a mark of 19-06.75 (5.96m), trailing teammate Grace Emineth, who won the event at 19-11.75 (6.09m).

Moving along in the high jump, Arienne Birch cleared 5-08.50 (1.74m) to take first place. Meanwhile, Adison Kapitzke recorded a personal-best throw of 48-07.50 (14.82m) in the shot put, earning second place, and Merrideth Spiers claimed second in the weight throw with a mark of 62-05.75 (19.04m).

Back on the track, freshman Elise Wisnewski impressed in the 200m with a runner-up finish at 24.64, while Kaci Cooper secured second in the 600m with a time of 1:33.59.

Men

Adam Dugger, a sophomore, delivered another dominant showing in the triple jump, surpassing the 50-foot mark with a winning leap of 50-01.75 (15.28m). Freshman Reece Grosserode followed closely behind, improving his season-best to 49-08.25 (15.14m) to secure second place.

In the 60m hurdles, Brock Johnsen clocked a personal-best time of 7.95 to claim victory and climb to fourth on NDSU’s all-time list. Brooks Turner was the runner-up, running 7.99 in the prelims and 8.02 in the final. Jayden Murdock sprinted to victory in the 60m dash with a time of 7.00. Freshman Tyler Milkes secured the 200m title in 22.36, while Carter Elde won the 400m dash in 49.80. Ethan Moe earned the top spot in the mile with a time of 4:12.19 and added a second-place finish in the 800m, clocking 1:55.89.

Braden Brown won the high jump by matching his personal best clearance of 6-08.75 (2.05m). Michael Haugo claimed the long jump title with a mark of 23-10.25 (7.27m), with teammate Hunter Merkley finishing second at 23-03.50 (7.10m).

In the throwing events, the Bison men earned second-place finishes with Jack Packer in the weight throw and Zack Ramos in the shot put.

Next, the athletes will travel to Minneapolis, MN, on Jan. 24-25 to compete in the Jack Johnson Classic at the University of Minnesota.
