Sports Editor’s 2017 Bold Predictions

2017 is just around the corner, and it is time for predictions. These are my very bold and unlikely thoughts for the next 12 months.

Reign of the Bison ends

This is technically in 2017. I am predicting the Bison win against the Jacks in the quarters. Then will cruise in the semis and find themselves up against Eastern Washington in Frisco. Cooper Kupp explodes for three touchdowns as the Bison struggle on offense. The streak does not get to six for NDSU.

Patriots win the Super Bowl

And Tom Brady retires after the game. They Manning-Brady rivalry is one of the best all-time in sports, and Brady tries to one-up Peyton. He will throw two touchdowns against the Cowboys, but Zeke and Dak keep it close. Stephen Gostkowski hits a game winning field goal as Brady walks off into the sunset. The only issue is that during the celebrations, deflated balloons fall from the ceiling.

Curse of Blair

After Detroit collapses late in the year, the Vikings win the NFC North and host a playoff game. After a close affair with the Giants, it comes down to one last field goal to try to win the game. Kai Forbath pulls a 28-yard chip shot right, and the Giants get the win. Somewhere, Blair Walsh is sitting on a couch laughing, before going to a local field a kicking a 28-yarder. He still misses left.

Twins win the World Series

I said that these are predictions that won’t happen, right. But if this one does, then you heard about it here.

LeBron wins another ring, but does something more important

It will be another Golden State-Cleveland NBA Finals. The Cavs go up 3-1 before going to Oakland for Game 5. James goes 25 points, 5 assists, 8 rebounds and stuffs Steph Curry on a fast break. But in the postgame interview, he announces that Space Jam 2 will hit theaters in November. That will be when everyone loses their minds.

Minnesota United gets a designated player from Europe

MLS newest member is just now putting the pieces of a roster together. The most interesting thing about MLS is the Designated Player tag. A DP is someone who does not count toward the salary cap of the team.

So a couple of ideas for players for MNUFC. First Wayne Rooney. The Shrek body double is used to the crappy English weather and should feel at home in Minnesota. Another player at the end of their career is Iker Casillas. The former Real Madrid and current Porto man has considered a move to the States. He would be welcomed to Minnesota.
