I’ll tell you what I want, what I really, really want.
A Spice Girls reunion.
The five-piece girl band first debuted in the 1990s. Their breakout song, “Wannabe,” remains a classic to this day and jumpstarted their success. Following “Wannabe” were three albums, three world tours, one movie and critical acclaim.
Yet, all good things must come to an end. Like Destiny’s Child or One Direction (too soon?), The Spice Girls took an indefinite hiatus in 2000.
In 2008, they made a surprising comeback. The London start to their world tour, “The Return of the Spice Girls,” sold out in 38 seconds.
It seemed the reign of The Spice Girls was on a rebound. But, due to family commitments, The Spice Girls prematurely ended their tour.
The band has remained under the radar since then.
Victoria Beckham (“Posh”) has become a successful fashion designer and icon, Mel B (“Scary”) judges “America’s Got Talent,” and Melanie Chisholm (“Sporty”), Emma Bunton (“Baby”) and Geri Halliwell (“Ginger”) have since started their solo careers.
Then, Mel B revealed what fans have been waiting for: a Spice Girls reunion tour.
In an interview with James Cordon on Sept. 8, Mel B explained the girls were getting back together to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their debut album.
But the band will be missing some spices: not only did Mel B release the good news, she also soured it up by saying Beckham and Chisholm will not be joining in the fun.
“My other two fellow lovely ladies — you know Victoria is busy with her great fashion line, Mel C is doing her own album — so they gracefully said, ‘You three go ahead and do it,'” Mel B said.
Still, three is better than none.
The band has yet to announce tour dates and locations, but will probably stay true to their English roots and start in London.
