Road construction continues to be prevalent in Fargo residents’ lives.
There are two high-traffic areas of Fargo that college students can expect to run into delayed travel.
First is the construction west of the NDSU campus on 12th Avenue on the other side of I-29.
Jason Baker, a City of Fargo transportation engineer, said the nature of the work being done is “simply pavement repair… from Interstate 29 to the 45th St.”
Another area of Fargo road undergoing major changes is 13th Avenue South near West Acres mall.
Baker said the former two-lane road has been undergoing work to become a “three lane course, in both directions.”
Baker cited the cause for construction being that the area was formerly considered rural, but now has grown into a high traffic area.
He added that curbs and gutters were also being added to the road.
NDSU student Kyra Ekre said her biggest concern with road construction is the safety of travelers.
“The direction of the lanes change so often, you have to memorize a new route with each trip to Target,” Ekre said.
Ekre added that at night she doesn’t know if she is in the wrong lane, or if the other drivers know what they are doing.
Baker said that yellow cement blocks have been placed to prohibit drivers trying to use shortcuts to bypass traffic.
Baker said that business owners were concerned of increased flow through business parking lots, so business owners worked with the City of Fargo to mitigate the problem before it occurred.
Construction on 13th avenue is slated to be finished near the end of October or the start of November.
