Despite performing at a smaller venue, Segura seemed right at home.

While waiting in line for the doors of the Fargo Civic Center to open to one of the most anticipated comedians of the year, one quality seemed to extend across the crowd: a devoted fanbase.

Nearly every person in line wore merchandise from the comedian’s former shows or repped shirts that read “BIKES!!!” across the chest, a popular joke from his previous special.

Flocking to the merchandise booth before the show for t-shirts and signed posters, fans conversed with one another, sharing their favorite jokes and specials with excitement and glee.

As they expressed their hopes for the show, the crowd learned minutes in that they truly weren’t ready for what was to come.

Tom Segura has quickly risen to fame to become one of the most in-demand talents in the comedy business. Over the past five years, he’s become most known for his three Netflix comedy specials, “Completely Normal” (2014), “Mostly Stories” (2016) and “Disgraceful” (2018).

Having also won many significant awards at some of the top comedy festivals in the world, performing at a smaller venue of 3,000 people seemed to be a change of pace. He did not mind at all and remained in his element.

Over an hour-long set, Segura discussed topics people only dare think about, let alone say out loud, showcasing the amusement in bad parenting, politics and playground fights. However, unlike other apologetic comedians, he’s never been afraid to speak his mind and relish in the backlash from certain communities.

At one point in the show, Segura took pride in receiving “over 250,000 emails and letters just from the sole state of Louisiana over a little thing I told at the ha-ha show”, referencing his quip on Cajun people and supporting a wall being built, only as long as it surrounds the entire state of Louisiana.

Within seconds of thanking his fans, Segura received an immense round of applause and standing ovation from everyone in the crowd, leaving them more than satisfied.

Outside of the arena, people were already sharing their favorite parts of what they just witnessed, retelling stories with nothing but positive responses. Fans took delight in the content above anything. He came to town with completely new stories but also took the time to improve on former ones.

As Segura advances his skill in the art of comedy with every special released, fans are clamoring to see where his fame will take him next on his path of alternative and unconventional storytelling.
