A review of Nichole’s Fine Pastry and Cafe’s thanksgiving desserts
I originally was just going to review Nichole’s Pastries and move on but when I stepped inside the shop I knew that couldn’t be the case. The shop was warm with conversation and laughter and staff rustling around behind the case helping customers with a smile that actually made it look like they wanted to be there helping me.
Nichole’s is not just a sweet shop; they have a savory menu for lunch and coffee as well, which I will definitely be back to try. I was completely surprised by how much I loved this place. The desserts were fancy and sophisticated which often is nerve wracking for me but the service made the whole place feel inviting.
On to the desserts, I tried the pumpkin cheesecake and the apricot frangipane tart, which I now know frangipane means almond-flavored cream. I saw Nichole’s had fall and thanksgiving desserts available and I wanted to give them a try, and I can confidently say if you brought either of these desserts to your thanksgiving dinner everyone would be impressed.
Forget the pumpkin pie; I want pumpkin cheesecake from now on. The filling was a mild pumpkin cheesecake topped with whipped cream and cinnamon, but the crust on this cheesecake stole the show for me. The crust was wonderfully crisp and sugary and paired beautifully texturally with the creamy decadent filling. This dessert is not quite the cheesecake I have had before nor pie but rather reminiscent of a combination of two, and a perfect combination I might add.
If you do not like pie or are looking for something to spice up your Thanksgiving dessert definitely buy the cheesecake. Your family will love you and you’ll love me for recommending it. It’s a 10/10.
The apricot frangipane tart caught my eye instantly. I pictured my family sitting around the table all enjoying our own individual tart, which is quite beautiful I might add. This tart had a strong almond taste and a creamy apricot inside topped with a glass like glaze. The flavors blended smoothly making it the perfect treat. I could see myself eating it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, which I think would be a great pairing with this dessert. I loved it, nothing more to say.
If you are looking for something special to bring back home for your family on the holidays, Nichole’s Fine Pastry and Cafe take the cake, did I mention they have cake. For students staying in town for break I would definitely recommend picking up some desserts for yourself to enjoy at home or with your roommates. The desserts are well priced, especially for how good they were.
Outside of Thanksgiving I will definitely be back to try this hidden gem. I could see myself having a lunch date with my roommate and ordering a few of their niche desserts to indulge on. I cannot stress enough how much I loved this place and it may be the favorite food review I have ever done.
Please check out Nichole’s and you can thank me later.
