After a dominant performance at the NDSU Fall Invitational, the Bison women’s golf team didn’t have as much success at the Hobble Creek Classic at the Hobble Creek Golf Course in Springville, Utah.
The Bison women’s head coach, Matt Johnson, told The Spectrum that “consistency” is one of the facets he hopes his team improves on during the season.
Unfortunately for Johnson, consistency was a rare occurrence in the tournament for the Bison.
The Herd took 12th place out of 18 teams in the tournament. The Bison finished 74 over with a 926. After a 320-stroke first round, the team bounced back in the final two rounds with 304 and 302.
Sophomore Jo Barancyzk led the Bison with a 17-over 230. Baranczyk hit a two-over 73 in the final round, boosting her position on the leaderboard 22 positions. She improved her score immensely after a tough 81 in the first round.
Catherine Monty and Elise Hoven, who both co-won the NDSU Fall Invitational, didn’t have quite as shiny of a performance.
Monty tied for 39th place with a 19-over 232. The junior had her best round in the second with a four-over 75. In the other two rounds, a 79 and 78, ailed her score.
Hoven, a sophomore, finished in a tie for 51st. Hoven hit a one-over 72 in the final round of the tournament, a team-best round in the tournament. The final round boosted the sophomore 34 spots on the leaderboard. She shot an 82 and 81 in the first two rounds.
Junior Leah Skaar tied for 56th with a 23-over 236. Skaar hit a three-over 74 in the second round and a pair of ten-over 81s.
Madi Hicks entered a tie for 61st, she shot a 24-over 237. Hicks, a freshman in her first season with the Bison, remained consistent in the tournament with a trio of eight-over 79s.
Cora Larson, who golfed individually in the tournament, tied for 73rd with 240 strokes. The freshman’s best round came in the final round when she shot a seven-over 78.
The NDSU women’s team will travel to Brookings S.D. next week for the Jackrabbit Invitational at the Brookings Country Club on Sep. 19-20.
