NDSU women’s golf earns top honors at Jackrabbit Intercollegiate

NDSU’s Skaar wins the co-medalist title

The North Dakota State University women’s golf team got its second win of the fall season at the Jackrabbit Intercollegiate at Brookings Country Club in Brookings, S.D.

The Bison took home the win, shooting a 904 over three rounds. The Herd opened the tournament tying South Dakota State for the lead in the first, each shooting 303s. NDSU separated themselves from the competition by shooting a 301 in the second round.

A final round of 300 sealed the deal for the Bison. The host team, the Jackrabbits, earned runner-up honors with a 912.

The win came as a nice recovery from the team’s 12th place performance at the Hobble Creek Invitational at Hobble Creek Golf Course in Springville UT.

Leah Skaar led the Herd with a seven-over 223. The junior tied with SDSU’s, Alex Kandolin, for first place. Skaar opened the tournament with a 71, the best in the first round. She hit a pair of 76s to close out the tournament.

Elise Hoven, a sophomore, shot a nine-over 225 for third place. Hoven had two 77s in the first rounds and finished with a 71 in the final round.

Sophomore Jo Baranczyk earned fifth place with an 11-over-par 227. Baranczyk shot a 73 in the second, a team-best in the round. She had 77s in the other rounds.

Madi Hicks tied for seventh with a 14-over 230. The first-year student shot a first-round 78 and a 75 in the second round. Hicks closed out the tournament with a 77.

Junior Catherine Monty shot her way into 16th place with a 20-over-par 236. A pair of 80s to open the tournament put Monty back, but her best round awaited. She finished with a 76.

Ava Wallerich, who golfed individually, tied for 19th place with a 23-over 239. The junior struggled in the opening round with an 86. Wallerich bounced back in the last rounds with a 75 and 78.

Senior Maddie Herzog tied for 23rd with a 26-over-par 242. Herzog opened with a 78 in the tournament. She closed out with a pair of 82s, in her individual play.

Cora Larson, a first-year student, finished the tournament with a 243 for 25th place. Larson’s best round a 77 came in the second round. She shot 82 and 84 in her other rounds.

The Bison will travel to the Tacoma Country Club in Tacoma, Wash., for the Pat Lesser-Harbottle Invitational from Oct. 3-4. The team only has two tournaments remaining in the fall season.
