Lately, I’ve been listening to a lot of different music, and although I might not actually know all the words to the songs that I consider my current top five, I don’t think it’s illegal for me to still blast them in my car with the windows down and scream the very few words that I do know. From worship music to the stuff I get from my boyfriend to random ones that Apple Music recommends to me, here are five songs that I just can’t stop listening to.
“Follow My Girl” by the Japanese House
This song has become a recent favorite, with all the fun, cool sounds at the beginning catching my ear. I also just love the lead singer’s voice because it’s very unique and although she doesn’t do many complex things with it, I could listen to her sing forever. The Japanese House also gets a little honorable mention with its cover of “Super Trooper” which is literally so calming and once again really highlights how beautiful the lead singer’s voice is.
“Psalm 23” by Phil Wickham feat. Tiffany Hudson
I’ve known this song for a while, but it played when I was listening to random stuff the other day, and I now have a new gratitude for it. Not only is the entire song scripture-based, but I also love the vocals by Tiffany Hudson and the way certain words are delivered. The harmonies they do are just amazing and it makes this song that much better that I can worship God through it. “Your goodness and your mercy will follow me all the days of my life” is such a powerful verse and gives me so much comfort because I know that I could never save myself.
“Part of the Band” by The 1975
This song is just so fun. The 1975 is so good about pairing simple vocals with complex lyrics but also adding some humor such as the lyric, “I like my men the way I like my coffee; full of soy milk and so sweet.” I also love that every part of this song is different; it goes from being a really upbeat song to being soft and beautiful and right back to the fast pace. All of their music is great, but this has definitely become a new favorite.
“Lilies & Sparrows” by Jess Ray
Ever since I heard Jess Ray open for Chris Renzema last year, I have been obsessed with her music. She delivers the Word in such a powerful way and has such a soothing voice to go alongside it. This song in particular is based on Matthew 6:26-34 and is the perfect song/scripture for when I’m feeling low or like I can’t get everything done. It tells of how the lilies and sparrows have all they need and that God loves us that much and more, that He is covering our lives.
“This Is The Gospel” by ELEVATION RHYTHM & Joe L. Barnes
This last one is my Christian hype song. It’s upbeat but also delivers the message of the gospel in a simplified manner that pairs perfectly with the happy rhythm. That’s all I have to say.
