A satisfying win in front of a small crowd for the Herd
On Tuesday, NDSU Men’s baseball went down to the Twin Cities to take on the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers. The Bison were able to trample over the little Gophers with a 7-4 victory.
The game was played in the big U.S. Bank Stadium in front of a crowd of 555 who were treated to quite an exciting game. Both teams came out swinging early. NDSU got on the board first putting a run-up right away at the top of the first. The run came courtesy of second baseman Peter Brookshaw who was knocked in on a single from Tucker Rohde.
Minnesota would answer with two runs in the bottom of the second. Then at the top of the third, the duo of Rohde and Brookshaw struck again. Rohde ripped a two-run double write plating Brookshaw and Bennett Hostetler
Minnesota answered one more time though, with two runs in the bottom of the third. Once again NDSU would have any trouble coming back from being down one. This is thanks in part largely due to Gopher’s pitching.
The help from Minnesota came in the top of the ninth. Two NDSU hitters in a row were walked with the bases were loaded allowing Brock Anderson and Brookshaw, who scored three times on the day, to make it home and extend NDSU’s lead.
After the matchup, the all-time record between these two teams is 30-11 in favor of the Gophers. This win ended a Minnesota winning streak of four in matchups against the Bison. To be the cherry on top, the Bison are now 2-1 for games in U.S Bank Stadium.
NDSU has yet to play in any conference games, but they are now 6-7 in non-conference matchups. Meanwhile, Minnesota is 5-7 overall.
This weekend, NDSU will be playing a four-game series at North Colorado. Game one will be Friday at 3 p.m., game two will be Saturday at 1 p.m., game three will the same day at 5 p.m. and the fourth and final game will be Sunday at 1 p.m.
