Fargo Is on Fire

GRANT GLOE | THE SPECTRUM
Just look at them cool leaves.

There are a lot of articles that headline could be tacked onto. It could be about the crime rate, but the most prevalent crimes would have to do with alcohol. As North Dakota State is a dry campus, I don’t really see how that’s relevant. The headline could be about politics, but you could always apply that headline to politics. It doesn’t carry a lot of weight unless Fargo City Hall is actually on fire. No, this article is about the nicest and most mundane interpretation.

Look at all them cool leaves.

I love this time a year. An average neighborhood turns into a burst of color. Pumpkin spice comes back. (If that’s your thing.) Eggnog comes way too early, but is still delicious. Everyone breaks out flannels and sweatshirts. Most of all, there is still one last drop of heat. It’s a wonderful time to get all your affairs in order before winter, almost like having a seasonal bucket list.

This is the time to go outside. Enjoy the great outdoors. Go on walks, wait for the sun and play some sports. Ride your bikes and act like you own the road because you are simultaneously a vehicle and a pedestrian. News flash: you are a vehicle. You follow traffic laws. Don’t cut me off on the basis that I can kill you. Guess why? I will end up killing you. I don’t want to do that. It would be very stressful. Food trucks are also a great way to get out in the nice weather.

It’s also the time to start winter proofing. You don’t want to be dealing with this stuff while there is snow on the ground. Toss on your waders and get docks out of the water. Make sure your plumbing is up to snuff and won’t create a “return to sender” scenario. Say goodbye to your loved ones, as you are about to lock yourself in your apartment to hibernate until the holidays. Remember to forget your Christmas shopping until the week of.

We have precious little time with the leaves and the heat. Soon we’ll have snow and finals. Neither of those things knows pity. Neither shows mercy.
