The NDSU Womens basketball team (16-7, 8-2 Summit) took down South Dakota (10-
15, 4-7 Summit) by a final score of 75-65 this past Saturday at the Scheels Health
Athletic complex in Fargo.
Avery Koenen led the way for the Bison, turning in 25 points on 9-13 from the field and
going six of eight from the free throw line, good for her third 20-point game in the last
four contests. She also grabbed six total rebounds, two assists and a steal. Marisa
Frost was good for 13, and Abbie Draper also added 10 to go along with three boards.
The Bison shot 35.7% (10-28) from three and 9-12 from the free throw line, including
going eight of nine in the fourth quarter. The Bison also had 30 points in the paint and
the bench outscored the USD bench 24-4.
The Bison outscored the Coyotes 26-16, following a 34-32 halftime deficit to take control
in the third quarter. An 11-0 run capped by a Marisa Frost steal and score gave them a
45-41 lead with just over four minutes in the quarter. NDSU opened it up,
expanding their lead to as large as 14, taking a 71-57 lead with just under three minutes
left in the game following a pair of free throws from Abbie Draper.
Any comeback attempt proved futile for South Dakota, as the Bison wrapped it up, 75-65.
The Bison will stay at home as No. 25 South Dakota State comes to town this
Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the SHAC.
