Great Rides Bike Share is returning a little earlier than expected.

The popular transportation service went into winter hibernation Nov. 1. Following station installments to come over North Dakota State’s March 14-18 spring break, the system will be user-ready March 27, Sara Watson Curry, Great Rides operations director, said in a news release. The original start date was planned for April 1.

Bike Share racked up over 143,000 trips in its first season, which opened March 15 last year.

The 100 Bison green B-cycles have been tuned up over the winter, Watson Curry said in the new release. The bikes will be on display in Fargo’s St. Patrick’s Day parade as community supporters pedal “the green three-speeds” along the parade route.

The parade begins 1 p.m. Saturday on downtown Broadway.

Great Northern Bicycle Company will host a party at 425 Broadway following the parade.

Great Rides Bike Share leads the nation as the first bike sharing system integrated with student riders, Watson Curry said. The system’s bicycles were checked out an average of 20 times per bike per day by last fall.

Over 7,000 students had registered their Bison card to use the Bike Share system by the service’s six-month mark last September.
