Last minutes gift ideas
Did you forget that today is Valentine’s Day? Did you forget to get a gift for that special someone in your life?
Well, if you picked up this newspaper looking for help, then you must be a helpless buffoon.
Picking out a gift can be difficult. Everyone wants to get the perfect gift, but the perfect gift takes serious time and consideration to develop, and it surely won’t be found in the next few paragraphs.
What I can do is give you some last-minute gift ideas, and if you’re lucky you will survive your Valentine’s Day antics. Just try to do better next year, OK?
Sticking with the classics
Even if it feels like a cliché, there’s nothing wrong with the classic combo of flowers and candy. If you know your significant other’s favorite candy or flower, that’s a plus.
Keep in mind that most people purchasing flowers for Valentine’s Day do so in advance, so selection is limited and prices might even be higher.
Unfortunately, there really is no classic or typical gift for guys. I would stick with something practical, such as food or drink or a gift card to one of his favorite stores or restaurants. Those gifts would be acceptable for anybody, regardless of sex. Who doesn’t love food?
You know them best
Sometimes, picking out a gift is as simple as asking yourself the question: what do they like? Is your special someone into cooking? Get them some new cooking supplies. Do they like a certain movie or TV show? Buy it for them, or buy them a T-shirt or other merchandise.
Does your significant other have an unhealthy fixation on Danny DeVito? Buy them a framed picture, and point them toward psychological help.
Gifting based on the personal interests of the other person is a great way to show that you care and listen to them.
Money isn’t mandatory
Valentine’s Day has the potential to be a very expensive holiday. So, if you’re on a budget, as many college students are, how do you manage without breaking the bank or seeming cheap?
Try doing something nice for your Valentine. This could be anything from cleaning out their car to making them a home-cooked meal.
Another way to save a buck or two is by making homemade gifts. A personalized homemade card is almost always more meaningful than a store-bought card. If your significant other understands your financial situation, you have nothing to worry about.
Time well spent
Lastly, spending time with your Valentine is key. I can’t think of a better way to spend Valentine’s Day than with your special someone. Some common ways people spend time are at a nice restaurant, at the movies or at home.
Sometimes a night in is all your significant other wants on a day that’s filled with expressive romance. All that’s really important is that you’re together.
Hopefully by now you have picked out the perfect gift for your Valentine. I strongly encourage you to plan ahead for next year. I truly hope this isn’t the last Valentine’s Day you celebrate with your special someone. If it all works out, I will be expecting a wedding invitation in the near future. After all, where would your relationship be without my help?
