On Jan. 26, Broadway producer Kevin McCollum announced the 2006 movie, “The Devil Wears Prada,” will be adapted into a musical.

Pop legend Elton John and playwright Paul Rudnick have agreed to begin working on the project.

“The Devil Wears Prada” is based on the book by Lauren Weisberger and was adapted to the screen in 2006.

Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway starred as Miranda Priestly and Andy Sachs, respectively. Sachs is an ambitious young woman determined to make a name for herself in the highly competitive magazine industry.

Sachs is hired as a personal assistant to Streep’s character, Priestly, the intimidating and demanding editor-in-chief for a fictional major fashion magazine.

As Sachs navigates the world of high fashion, deadlines and people who all want to see her fall, she begins to recognize the price of success is high.

There is no set timeline as to when the musical is set to debut, only that implementation has begun. However, this editor begs one question: will Streep reprise her role as Priestly?

Streep has displayed her talent in musicals before with her roles in “Mamma Mia” and “Into the Woods.” Many would argue film adaptations of musicals are not a good judge of an actor’s talent, but Streep’s success in cinema and her experience in musicals (despite them not being on stage) makes her a viable candidate for the role. That, and she’s already fluent in the characterization of Priestly.

While this is all speculation and pure imaginative dreaming from this editor, it is needless to say “The Devil Wears Prada” could be Broadway’s next big hit, whenever it hits the stage.
