Women’s Basketball Defeats Jamestown 88-50

The North Dakota State women’s basketball team was able to end their first homestand of the year with an 88-50 win over Jamestown on Friday night. NDSU had four different players in double digits. Abby Krzewinski was the top scorer for the Bison, logging 15 points while shooting 5-9 from the field and 1-3 from beyond the arc while grabbing four boards and a steal. Miriley Simon also poured in 13 points on 60% from the field to go along with a team-high seven rebounds, Molly Lenz had 12 points with 4 assists and a steal, and Avery Koenen was good for 11 to go along with 6 rebounds and 4 stocks. 

The Bison shot 51% from the field, with 11 different players finding the scoring column. The Bison used a season-high 44 points off the bench and a 20-point advantage in the paint, outscoring the Jimmies 40-20 in the lane. 

Jamestown was able to keep it close through one quarter, with the Bison taking a 24-18 lead after one. A 12-2 run to open the second quarter stretched their lead to a 36-20 advantage following a pair of free throws from Avery Koenen three minutes through the quarter, and the Bison went into the locker room with a 44-29 advantage.

The momentum stayed with the Bison coming out of the break, using an 8-0 run topped off by an Abbie Draper jumper to extend the lead to 52-29. A 22-10 advantage in the third quarter extended the Bison lead, and they didn’t slow down from there. The Bison kept the foot on the gas, outscoring the Jimmies 22-11 in the fourth quarter and wrapping up an 88-50 win. 

NDSU will improve to 2-1 as they prepare to head to Anchorage, Alaska, for the ASRC/ConocoPhillips Great Alaska Shootout as they take on Vermont this Friday. Tip-off is set for 8:15 p.m. central time.
