“The Office”
One of my greatest distraction tactics currently is “taking a break” from my homework and lying down to watch at least two hours of “The Office.” Yes, some people say it’s counterproductive, but I get my homework done on time, so really it’s not hurting me. Anyway, my favorite part of this show is obviously Pam and Jim because how could it be anything else? They are literally so cute and I cry every time at the episode when Jim finally gets his priorities straight and asks Pam out on a date. I would highly recommend you watch this when you’re in any mood—happy, sad, needing to do your homework. It can fix anything.
Using music as my motivation to clean
I’ve always been a clean freak, but after having minimal breaks throughout a very busy week, the last thing I want to do is get the vacuum and disinfectant spray out. So, to counteract that, I’ve been trying to find new music that gets me in the mood for cleaning and fall. I’ve been listening to a lot of worship music, especially Chris Renzema and Jess Ray, because how can I not be happy when I’m praising the Lord?
Owala Water Bottle
I got my Owala over Labor Day weekend, and when I say it has changed my life, I mean it. I’m not sure if it’s the fact that I have a new water bottle or that it is specifically an Owala, but I have been drinking more water than I have in the last couple of years. (The amount of water I’m drinking is probably normal; I just never drink water, so this is big.) Not only is it easy to drink out of, but the little handle thing makes it fun to carry around because it doesn’t feel like it’s ripping my finger off every time I pick it up.
The Cold Mornings
I didn’t think I would ever be someone to be grateful for the cold, but when you’re a broke college student who has to pay for AC, not having an electricity bill that makes your eyes pop out of your head isn’t something you take for granted. Getting up in the morning and not having sweat dripping down my forehead is life-changing.
Reading the Bible
As a Christian, reading my Bible is an important part of my life, but I can admit that it sometimes falls through the cracks. The key to getting into the Word every day is to set aside time, even if it’s just five minutes, to read through Scripture and meditate on what God is trying to tell you. The greatest advice I’ve been given when I’m looking to hear God’s voice or need direction in something is to go straight to the source which is the Truth and Word of God. He can reveal some pretty amazing things in some pretty amazing ways if you just give Him the time and space to.
