It’s homecoming again, and this year NDSU has activities lined up that will be fun for everyone, regardless of whether they enjoy sports, outdoor events or local history. The week kicks off Monday with free ice cream sundaes outside the library from 1-3 p.m., and a mind reader event at 7 p.m. at Festival Concert Hall.
NDSU’s new museum will be celebrating its opening with events hosted by the Memorial Union Gallery, starting at 4:30 and going until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. Those interested can learn more about the museum’s creation, see what artifacts are displayed across campus and participate in workshops and talks to explore what it has to offer.
Serve With the Herd is on Tuesday, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. students can sign up for a variety of service projects ranging from blanket tying to doing cleanup and sorting for local charities. The sign-up link for this event was sent out via email and is also on the NDSU website on the Homecoming Events page. At 6 p.m. a group will be meeting outside of the east doors of Cater Hall to collect trash on campus, with gloves and trash bags provided.
On Wednesday students can make their own homecoming pennants in the Students Activities Office in Memorial Union from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Later they can test their knowledge at Bison Trivia Night in the Oceti Sakowin Ballroom, also in Memorial Union, at 8:30 p.m.
Thursday begins with a blood drive at Cater Hall, running from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The signup for this event is on the NDSU website. Later Greg Lardy, the vice president for agriculture, will be signing his book “Come to Him in the Silence; Meditations for Life’s Journey,” a daily devotional. He will be at the NDSU Bookstore from 2-4 p.m. From 7:30 to 10 p.m. that evening will be the Homecoming Show at the Festival Concert Hall, featuring NDSU student talent and the Homecoming Court. Admission is free for students with a student ID and $10 for general admission.
There are many events to look out for on Friday, including $7 Homecoming Lunch at any dining center for any student, even those without a meal plan, Fan Friday deals at the bookstore, and Bison soccer against St. Ambrose at Dacotah Field at 6 p.m. There will also be a gathering to celebrate the groundbreaking at the new Richard Offerdahl ’65 Complex, an engineering building, from 2 to 3 p.m. Fun for the whole family includes the Bison Bash, with games and inflatables on Churchill Field starting at 4 p.m., and the Homecoming Parade, which will start at the corner of University and 17th and go from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Tailgating kicks off at 8 a.m. Saturday morning and goes until the big game against Towson at 1 p.m. Tickets for the game are available online and are free for students who reserve them through their student ticket account.
