North Dakota State women’s basketball team defeated Kansas City and Omaha for two straight dubs on their home court. 

Kansas City 

After a tough loss in the quarterfinals to Kansas City last year in Sioux Falls, North Dakota State claimed their revenge and victory over the Roos. The Bison started the game off trailing by 16 points and came back at the end of the third quarter being tied at 43. 

The first points for the Bison came from a free throw by Abbie Draper, putting NDSU behind by nine points. Draper scored a game-high 18 points, grabbed six rebounds, and dished out three assists. In the second quarter in the 14th minute, Ellie Evans made a key three-pointer to get the Bison into double digits. Throughout the game, Evans scored 17 points for the team. 

Up until the last couple minutes of the two quarters, NDSU had been trailing by a decent margin but was able to come back with three-pointers from Evans and Heaven Hamling, including two free throws by Hamling. In the third, it was a consistent fight back and forth, but in the fourth, NDSU came back to take as much as a seven-point lead. The Bison remained consistent in their intense pursuit for victory, ending with two good free throws from Evans, resulting in a 63-60 victory. 

The team was able to score 14 points off turnovers and 24 points in the paint alone. From the field, the Bison shot 33.3 percent and 65.7 percent from the free throw line. 

Omaha 

In a team effort, North Dakota State women’s basketball earned their third straight win two days later this past Saturday afternoon at Scheels Center. 

Abby Krzewinski started the game off in the first 15 seconds with two points, followed by a three-pointer from Hamling. Miriley Simon’s jumper at the end of the first quarter allowed the Bison a 15-point lead, 25-10. 

Throughout the second, NDSU kept up their intensity and point advantage against Omaha. In the third, the Mavericks brought their game, pushing back, and shot 56.3 percent from the field. The increase in accuracy led to a 50-42 deficit. Evans and Draper brought the Bison back to their normal point lead gap, with a fastbreak layup by Evans at 66-47. NDSU would finish the game with an 18-point lead, at 87-69 

The Bison tied their season-high record of 21 assists from seven different players. They shot 43.1 percent from the field and 29.4 percent from three. Abby Graham recorded a career-high seven rebounds and tallied 12 points. Krzewinski and Draper contributed 21 points together. NDSU continues their undefeated winning streak at home and remains undefeated in Summit League play this season.
