NDSU’s Abby Wilkinson named the TicketSmarter Summit League Women’s Soccer Defensive Performer of the Week
North Dakota State soccer’s Abby Wilkinson has been named the TicketSmarter Summit League Women’s Soccer Defensive Peak Performer of the Week, announced league officials on Monday.
Wilkinson had a career night in Moscow, Idaho on Friday, as she made ten saves en route to a shutout, as she led the Bison in a 0-0 tie against the Vandals.
The ten saves for Wilkinson set a new career high, breaking her previous mark of eight set last season. It was also Wilkinson’s second consecutive shutout, as the junior has not allowed a goal in over 236 minutes between the sticks.
The honor is Wilkinson’s first and is the second for the Bison in as many weeks, as defender Ashleigh Heely scooped up the Defensive Peak Performer of the Week honor last week.
NDSU’s James Kaczor named to AFCA Allstate Good Works team
North Dakota State linebacker James Kaczor, a senior from St. Cloud, Minn., was among the 22 student-athletes named to the Good Works Team, which recognizes 11 players from the Football Bowl Subdivision and 11 from the Football Championship Subdivision, Division II, Division III and NAIA for their leadership in local communities and overall commitment to giving back.
Kaczor is the ninth NDSU player to be recognized on the Good Works Team, joining tight end Ben Ellefson (2019), quarterback Easton Stick (2018), cornerback Richard Bowman (2009), running back Tyler Roehl (2008), quarterback Steve Walker (2007), running back Kyle Steffes (2006), offensive tackle Tim Popowski (2005) and safety Jared Essler (2004).
Kaczor’s community activities include packing meals for Feed My Starving Children, supporting low-income families and children utilizing the Charism food pantry, assisting with children’s ministry at River City Church, and participating on the leadership team of Fellowship of Christian Athletes at NDSU.
“The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team is arguably college football’s highest honor because it recognizes a player’s integrity and service off the field rather than their performance on it,” said Executive Vice President and General Manager, Allstate Sales and Distribution, Troy Hawkes. “The sports world is often defined by what happens between the lines. While they are also accomplished as players, these 22 student-athletes make a monumental difference in their communities. Allstate is so proud to honor them as beacons of positive change around the country.”
