How the cookie crumbles

A review of crumbl cookie

As a lover of all things sweet, I of course had to review the new Crumbl Cookie in West Fargo. Throughout my college experience, thus far, I have spent countless dollars at another cookie place known to Fargo, Insomnia, so I wanted to see if Crumbl could hold up.

Crumbl Cookie releases weekly flavors, with chocolate chip being the only cookie that is consistent from week to week. I enjoy the concept of different flavors every week and from a marketing standpoint this is definitely a smart move by the company, as people scramble every week to get their hands on their favorite limited time cookies.

The week of August 28 is when this review is from. I ordered a six pack with the following flavors: Chocolate Chip, Classic Pink Sugar, Pumpkin Chocolate Chip, Brownie Batter, Cookie Butter Lava, and Sea Salt Toffee.

Chocolate Chip

We will start with the consistent weekly flavor, Chocolate Chip. This is a classic dense, soft and warm milk chocolate chip cookie. Ultimately, I was disappointed.

Do not get me wrong, the cookie was good, however, I honestly think a Nestle Toll House cookie would have satisfied me more. I did not like that the cookie had milk chocolate chips, as I found the actual cookie to be way too sweet. I could only eat ¼ of the cookie, and as someone with a major sweet tooth, feeling sick after two bites just does not satisfy my craving.

Again, do not get me wrong it was a good cookie, I just would not go out of my way to get it again. Final score 7/10.

Classic Pink Sugar

I will never stop talking about this sugar cookie. This cookie is the reason I will be a continued customer at Crumbl. This vanilla sugar cookie topped with almond frosting was the perfect balance of flavors. The bottom cookie was the perfect amount of sweet and crumbly, while still soft and moist, but the frosting is what made this cookie. The sweet almond frosting made with real extract brings out the most delicious nutty taste, making these cookies taste just like grandmas.

When they are serving this cookie, buy it. Final score 10/10

If you have any doubts about how much I loved the Classic Pick Sugar cookie, I can tell you I went back with my roommates and got a box full of only sugar cookies.

Pumpkin Chocolate chip

I had a feeling I would not enjoy the pumpkin cookie. All I could think about while tasting this cookie was how much better it would be if it was served warm with cream cheese frosting.

This cookie, if you can describe it as one, was almost bread like. It was soft and pillowy but not what I like in a cookie. The semi sweet chocolate chips did not compliment the pumpkin well.

I ate one bite of this cookie and this was the only cookie that besides my bite, was not touched at all by any members of my house. Final Rank 3/10

Brownie Batter

The brownie batter cookie was way too sweet and rich to eat on its own. I recommend eating this one with milk or ice cream to cut through some of the richness.

Like the chocolate chip cookie, I could only eat a few bites before the sweetness became too much and made me feel sick. If you love chocolate however, I definitely recommend this cookie as it is very chocolate forward and the semi sweet chocolate chips inside are a great addition.

I enjoyed eating this cookie best warm with some ice cream and would give it a final rank of 6/10.

Cookie Butter Lava

This cookie is stuffed with cookie butter, drizzled cookie butter and topped with cookie butter morsels. I would compare the taste to being similar to a graham cracker and the cookie itself was served warm and had a beautiful crust with a dense, soft and sweet inside.

I would order the Cookie Butter Lava again. Final score 8/10.

Sea Salt Toffee

This cookie was filled with toffee pieces and milk chocolate chips, as well as topped with sea salt. I loved the salt on top of the cookie and I think it really helped to bring out the flavor of the toffee pieces.

I was skeptical at first about the toffee pieces being too chewy or hard but they were perfectly crunchy, buttery and they just melted in my mouth.

I will be buying this cookie the next time it is available and you might even catch me trying to find copycat recipes until that day. Final Score 9/10.

Overall

I will be stopping here again however, I am disappointed as I really wanted this to become my new spot. Insomnia has a better well rounded option for cookies and I will continue to rely on them for my sweet tooth fix. Crumbl cookies are slightly cheaper and larger however, so that is something to consider.

Final Ranking

  1. Sugar
  2. Sea Salt Toffee
  3. Cookie Butter Lava
  4. Chocolate Chip
  5. Brownie Batter
  6. Pumpkin Chocolate Chip
