I’ll say it. I hate the cold, snow, ice, sleet… the whole of winter. I hate it so much. The impending doom of winter is always in the back of my mind, and I am not looking forward to it.

Sometimes, bundling up in your warmest winter attire isn’t enough. The blinding white snow, lack of sun and persistent fear of slipping on ice sheets are constant reminders that we live in a terrible place for humans to occupy. Am I being dramatic? I say no.

The only thing that gets me to my 8 a.m. classes is knowing that I have a podcast or two queued up for the day. This makes my morning walk slightly more enjoyable.

I start every Monday morning with a podcast called Crime Junkie. If you are into true crime, this is the podcast for you. Every Monday, a new episode focusing a new case comes out, ranging from missing person cases to unsolved murders. Every episode is about 40 minutes, which is plenty of time for your walk to and from class.

Continuing with true crime podcasts, Serial season one is a must for every single person to listen to if you haven’t already. The podcast’s first season takes a deep dive into a murder that happened in 1999, a young man has been convicted of the crime—but is he actually guilty? You’ll be hooked and thank me later; the show has like half a billion total downloads for a reason.

I’m a fan of sports as most are, which is the majority of my podcast listening. There’s so many, first and most famously, I must get Pardon My Take out of the way. If you like football and laughter, give PMT a listen. The Bill Simmons podcast is another must-listen for all things sports. Both of these are super popular for a reason.

If you’re an NBA superfan like myself, The Ringer NBA Show focuses solely on basketball. Episodes usually run about an hour and topics range from updates, analysis, and predictions. Another good basketball podcast is No Dunks (formerly The Free Agents).

Lastly, Knuckleheads is a podcast hosted by former NBA players Quentin Richardson and Darius Miles, it’s a much more laid-back listen than the rest.

If you like keeping up with current events, Today, Explained is a podcast produced by Vox which gives about 20-minute shows every day about world news.

Do yourself a favor and give at least one of these podcasts a try. They’ve all made my early and cold mornings a little bit easier to go through and have given me some insight into new topics that I previously would not know about. All these podcasts are available on your podcast app or Spotify. Happy listening.
