This is your newspaper

When I first accepted the position of editor-in-chief of The Spectrum, I was told that it was now my paper and I could take it whichever direction I pleased.

The truth is, this is not my paper – this is your paper, and we at The Spectrum are going to do our best to produce a high quality publication that you will be proud to call your own.

As the student newspaper of NDSU, we are dedicated to representing the student voice on campus as well as throughout the community.

Since this is a student-run newspaper, The Spectrum is comprised of talented individuals from many different corners of campus who each bring a different perspective to the publication.

We have many new faces among our staff, as well as returning members, all of whom are very excited to work for you.

Next year, not only will we be maintaining a high quality print edition of The Spectrum, but we will also be implementing several new interactive mediums on our Web site to assist in getting The Herd’s voice heard.

One of the many new additions you can expect to find on our Web site will be student blogs.

Visitors of our Web site will have the opportunity to read about the many adventures of current and former students, whether they are studying abroad in Austria, working in China or simply sharing their stories from a dorm room on campus.

We will also be collaborating with the Bison Information Network (BIN) to include embedded video and audio on our Web site. You can also look forward to seeing and using interactive media including opinion polls and editor instant chatting sessions.

Many of our new ideas will be implemented on our Web site; however, our bi-weekly print edition will remain our top priority.

Though we are looking forward to the future, a special thanks to this year’s entire staff is more than deserved. This past year, The Spectrum has made many improvements, including undergoing a major redesign championed by former editor-in-chief, Adam Sprengeler.

Because of the great work that this year’s staff has done, The Spectrum has the ability to continue to grow and make improvements in order to meet the ever-changing demands of the campus community.

I would like to recognize our business and advertising staff as well as our editorial staff, as without either, NDSU’s student newspaper could not exist.

I would also like to take this opportunity to encourage you to contact us.

Whether you want to write a letter to the editor, purchase advertising space or join our staff, we would love to hear from you.

Please remember, this is your newspaper and we at The Spectrum look forward to working for you.
