Hacks to stay warm and safe this winter

CASSANDRA TWEED | THE SPECTRUM

Welcome back to life hacks!

Since the snow season is upon us, here are some hacks to keep you safe and warm during this winter.

Car hacks

If you have a car and there’s a possibility for snow, it’s always a good idea to make sure your car has a blanket, shovel and jumper cables. Keeping some matches, a few granola bars and even a candle in your glove box is never a bad idea either. That way, if you get stranded, at least you’re prepared.

Cold hacks

If you are always cold during the winter, here are some things for you to try. Try warming up your bed with a hot water bottle, that way when you crawl into bed it will already be warm for you.

Invest in a pair of flannel sheets! They’re warm, yet breathable, so you can get a comfortable night’s sleep without feeling suffocated by your sheets.

Miscellaneous winter hacks

Wet shoes? Place a crinkled-up newspaper inside them. It will absorb moisture quickly (and it’s way better for your shoes than sticking them in the dryer).

Dry cracked lips? Try using an exfoliating scrub to get rid of the dead skin.

If you’ve noticed dry skin, try investing in a humidifier. It will add moisture back into the air and help combat dry skin.

Though winter is long and grueling, these hacks may help you keep warm and safe.
