A Review of Babb’s Coffee House

Since coming to college my caffeine intake has skyrocketed. I practically run off of various caffeine drinks and since becoming a barista I have also become quite the coffee snob. Gone are the days of me going through the Starbucks drive thru, in place of a much more sophisticated taste.

If you are anything like me, or hopefully are willing to change your ways, you have realized that the big coffee corporations just do not cut it when it comes to quality. In a quest to find quality coffee shops I have decided to take to the streets of Fargo.

Over the next few weeks, I will be examining local coffee shops and reviewing them based on taste, quality and atmosphere.

Drinks

The espresso was a solid 3/5. I am very indifferent to Babb’s espresso. I did not dislike nor favor the espresso, which may be due to the fact it was slightly too acidic for my taste. I love really deep flavors in my espresso and this was pretty middle of the road. Overall, a decent cup of espresso, and in a drink I would be none the wiser of its flaws.

As always, I got a hot chai tea latte with oat milk. I have learned that it is very difficult to mess up a chai, as I have never had a bad one, however it is very difficult to get it perfect. I would rate the chai a 3/5. Again, a very standard taste like the espresso but taste was not where I knocked points, I would have preferred the milk to be steamed to a more silky consistency and a bit more foam. The drink was very satisfying overall and as I will get into it, I will continue to come here and the chai will definitely be something I purchase again.

Food

I purchased The Space Needle, a grilled panini sandwich, and it did not disappoint. The sandwich was made up of Pepperoni, salami, cheddar, provolone, roasted peppers and onions, and tomato sauce grilled on an Italian roll. Served with creamy tomato basil sauce and sweet maui onion chips.

The portion was very large and the sandwich was a 5/5. I loved the flavors that went into this sandwich and after reading the menu and looking at all of their items it is clear they value quality when it comes to their food. The sandwich came with a creamy dipping sauce that complemented the flavors beautifully. I am a sucker for sweet onion chips, which were a perfect compliment to the sandwich.

I would like to explore the pastry case on my next trip as they had a wide selection of appealing treats from a variety of scones to cookies and cakes. I highly recommend trying the food here as I was very pleased and am excited to continue to explore their menu.

Overall and Atmosphere

Attention all college students: Babb’s is the perfect coffee shop to work in. So far on my coffee journey I have found Babb’s to be the most inviting for working in. They have a variety of seating options from the typical tables and chairs to big comfy couches perfect for spreading out and studying. As I mentioned earlier, I will definitely be back and the atmosphere is a huge reason why.

The coffee house is covered in fun artwork and decor that I found amazing to look at in between study breaks and the mix-match furniture, soft lighting, and quiet instrumental music makes it a wonderful place to sit and work. The employees were great and greeted me the moment I walked in. Overall I give Babb’s a 4/5. You will definitely find me here again.
