President Dean Bresciani signed off on the cheaper of two fee increase options proposed by SFAB to take effect in fall 2016.
Student fees are increasing from $50.66 per credit per semester to $53.47 per credit per semester.
President Dean Bresciani announced Thursday in a Listserv that he has opted to sign off on the less expensive of two options proposed for student fee increases by the student fee advisory board for the 2015-16 year.
Bresciani signed off on the option that increases the student health service and aquatic addition fees by a cumulative total of 0.99 percent.
The option will raise student fees by $2.81,with the aquatic addition fee being raised by $2.26 and the student health service fee being raised by $0.54.
An increase of $0.01 per credit for the North Dakota Student Association fee is part of the increase, though Bresciani did not have have to sign off on it.
“I opted for the 0.99 percent fee increase to limit the financial impact on students,” Bresciani said in his email.
As student fees did not increase to more than $67.62 per credit per semester, or 1 percent tuition cap, the State Board of Higher Education will not have to give its approval and thus the fee increases are confirmed.
Beginning last October, advisory boards for various student fees had started planning fee increases to propose to SFAB, with deadlines for proposed increases happening in early December.
Proposed fee increases included an increase to the fee for NDSU athletics, an increase to the technology fee, an increase to the student health services fee, an increase to the wellness fee for the Aquatic Center, an increase to the NDSA fee and the student activity fee.
Student government held four open forums for students to provide feedback to student government representatives regarding their opinions on proposed fee increases.
Following the open forums, SFAB voted on which fees to approve and send to Bresciani and which fees to deny approval.
SFAB only approved of two fee increases, the student health service fee and the aquatic addition fee, with two options between them.
The first option would increase the student health service fee and aquatic addition fee by a cumulative total of 1.3 percent. The second would increase the student health services and aquatic addition fees by a cumulative total of 0.99 percent.
The increases will take effect in fall 2016.
Bresciani can go f*** himself. There’s no reason why students should have to pay for things they don’t use.
People who don’t get healthcare from NDSU shouldn’t pay for people who do.
People who don’t use the wellness center shouldn’t pay for people who do.
And students most definitely shouldn’t have to pay for the myriad of waste of student organizations they are not a part of.
