Alternatives Proposed to Quell Beavers

In April, the Fargo Park Board approved a planned culling of beavers in city limits along the Red River. The board’s actions stemmed from the vermin overpopulating the river, causing damage to trees.

Members of the Humane Society of the United States are trying to persuade the board into using non-lethal methods.

Dave Pauli, the HSUS senior director of wildlife innovations and response, proposed methods such as catching the beavers in cages, training the animals to chew on undesirable trees and painting trees with a mix that would repel the beavers without harming them.
